A bold new sci-fi universe from the creators of The Last of Us and Uncharted.
Naughty Dog, the acclaimed studio behind The Last of Us and Uncharted, has finally unveiled its next major project: Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. The announcement came during the 2024 Game Awards, where an exhilarating trailer offered the first glimpse of this ambitious new adventure for PlayStation 5.
A Journey Into a Mysterious Universe
Set 2,000 years into the future, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet follows Jordan A. Mun, a highly skilled bounty hunter stranded on the enigmatic planet Sempiria. For over 600 years, Sempiria has remained cut off from the rest of the universe, and no one who attempted to explore its secrets has ever returned. Equipped with her sharp wit and honed abilities, Jordan embarks on a perilous quest to become the first person to escape the planet’s orbit and unravel its mysteries.
Neil Druckmann, creative director and lead writer of the project, shared his excitement: “What we can tell you is that this game lives up to the Naughty Dog tradition of creating an emotional, character-driven epic journey. Our narrative goals are rivaled only by our gameplay ambitions. This will be the deepest gameplay in Naughty Dog’s history, taking our learnings from our previous franchises and pushing them beyond anything we’ve ever done before.”
Druckmann also emphasized that Intergalactic will deliver Naughty Dog’s deepest and most ambitious experience to date, offering advanced gameplay mechanics that allow players to explore, fight, and make strategic decisions in a dynamic, unpredictable universe.
A Stellar Cast and Soundtrack
Tati Gabrielle, known for her roles in Uncharted (2022) and The Last of Us Season 2, plays the fearless protagonist, Jordan. The cast also features notable stars like Kumail Nanjiani and Tony Dalton, with more character reveals expected in the coming months.
Equally exciting is the game’s musical collaboration. Oscar-winning composers Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross will score the soundtrack, bringing their signature style to Intergalactic. The trailer, featuring the song “It’s a Sin” by Pet Shop Boys, perfectly sets the tone, blending futuristic vibes with a retro aesthetic inspired by the 1980s.
A Tribute to Classic Sci-Fi
Visually, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet draws inspiration from iconic Japanese anime like Akira and Cowboy Bebop. Naughty Dog combines this artistic vision with cutting-edge technology, creating a visually stunning and richly detailed world. Players will explore diverse environments and battle deadly enemies, including blade-wielding robots.
What to Expect
In development since 2020, Intergalactic aims to push the PlayStation 5 to its limits in both visuals and gameplay. Naughty Dog is committed to delivering an adventure that merges compelling storytelling with innovative mechanics, reaffirming its position as a leader in the action-adventure genre.
The trailer has already sparked excitement among fans, and Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet promises to become one of the most anticipated titles of recent years. As Naughty Dog continues to refine this epic space odyssey, fans can look forward to more updates soon.
