This captivating 2D dark fantasy pixel art Metroidvania, inspired by Blasphemous and The Lord of the Rings, has reached its funding goal in just 10 hours!
With a stunning new trailer animated by Sunshine Animation Studio, the Kickstarter campaign for Eden’s Guardian, the upcoming pixel art Metroidvania developed and self-published by the Spanish game company Voragine Game Studios, officially kicks off.
Coming soon to Nintendo Switch, PC (via Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, Eden’s Guardian made its crowdfunding debut on Kickstarter yesterday, March 26, 2024, reaching its funding goal in just 10 hours and currently totaling €36.218 out of a €30,000 goal, with 530 backers, with 31 days still remaining in the campaign. This remarkable and extraordinary achievement has enabled the Spanish team to outline multiple objectives through a small, mostly secret roadmap for the upcoming stretch goals.
Inspired by cinematic masterpieces like The Lord of the Rings and acclaimed video games such as Elden Ring, Blasphemous, Hollow Knight, and Dark Souls, Eden’s Guardian will immerse players in the role of an awakened Guardian, emerging from long imprisonment to restore the world to its former glory.
A few words about Voragine, the creators of Eden’s Guardian
Founded in Madrid in 2020, Voragine Game Studios is a small independent game company comprised of individuals, developers, and artists who bring considerable experience from the gaming industry, now embarking on their first project as a studio.
Voragine was born out of a deep passion for video games, particularly the Metroidvania sub-genre. The team consists of founder Guillermo Meléndez, pixel artists Dani Doblas and Javier Sánchez, art director Sergio Peña—who spearheads the exceptional artistic direction of Eden’s Guardian—CEO, Composer, and Sound Designer Jesús Martínez, Lead Programmer Agus Sánchez, and Producer Telm Serra.
In addition, we notice the inclusion of two Game Designers, David and Fer, and Technical Artist Guille in the Kickstarter campaign, suggesting recent additions to the team.
The Rebirth of the Guardian
After the decline of the Guardians, it led to a great battle. After it, our protagonist was imprisoned in a crystal prison. Years later, her prison was shattered, and she emerged into a changed world, where the beauty of yore had faded into an elegy of desolation.
The Guardian’s journey begins amidst ruins and shadows, a path that will lead her through cursed lands and nightmare creatures. Every step will resonate with the echoes of a forgotten story, and every encounter will reveal secrets buried in the dust of time.
This is the hauntingly beautiful beginning of the story of the protagonist of Eden’s Guardian.
Who says a sword can only be a weapon?
Set in a dark era where the ancient beings, the Guardians, have erred by delving into a dark power beyond their understanding, Eden’s Guardian tells the tale of an awakened Guardian embarking on a journey through these ancient and desecrated lands alongside her sword.
As revealed by Voragine Game Studios, each Guardian possesses their own weapon. In the case of our protagonist, she wields a sword that grants her the ability to teleport to any location where she throws it. In a sense, the sword seems to possess a life of its own, which is why it’s limiting to merely describe it as just a tool for combat.
Essential for platforming and equally crucial for combat and exploration, the sword in Eden’s Guardian is a central element around which many of the development team’s decisions regarding game and level design revolve.
Players will be tasked with exploring the ruins of Eden, uncovering their dark secrets, and journeying through six lands, each with its own rich story and background. From the once-beautiful monumental city of Elisea now teetering on the brink of collapse, to the Undercity, former abode of the Order of the Black Sun Knights, and descending into the darkest depths of the Mausoleum of the Fallen and the Catacombs.
Will you succeed in healing these lands and restoring order and light to the realm?

The upcoming goals for Eden’s Guardian
With the achievement of the funding goal, Voragine Game Studios has prepared a small surprise for all project backers: an exclusive skin for the Guardian, as a token of gratitude from the team to those who supported the campaign.
Furthermore, the achievement of this first milestone has unlocked a new stretch goal: the boss rush mode, which will be available once the project reaches the €60,000 mark. As mentioned earlier, the roadmap for stretch goals remains partially shrouded in mystery to date. However, by taking a glance at the update posted by the developers on Kickstarter, we can already catch a small hint regarding what the new goal might entail. This goal will be unlocked once €70,000 is reached, and of course, after the completion of the second stretch goal.
Eden’s Guardian is slated for release in Q4 of 2025 on Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. As we anticipate additional updates on the Kickstarter campaign and the project itself, make sure to stay tuned and don’t forget to visit Voragine Game Studios’ website and follow their updates on X to stay up to date on the latest developments in the game.
That’s all for today. Until next time!
