What we know so far
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the notorious sequel of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, will be released soon, 28 April precisely. Developed by Respawn Entertainment for Playstation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and Windows. Survivor is a single player, adventure and action game.
Showed off for the first time in the Game Award 2022. Attended by Cameron Monaghan, face model of Cal Kestis itself, the game shattered our expectations. Nobody, me neither, expected to download 147 GB on Ps5 and 155 GB on PC.
Be ready to free some “space” in your hardisk! Walk on new galaxies as a reforged Jedi Master and kick theenemies and beasts that block Cal’s path. A renewned combat system composed of double lightsabers and more force combos will help out.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor news
As mentioned in one of our articles in preparation for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, let’s see what improvements and news the title is ready to offer.
As anticipated, the combat system has been renewed, thus offering five Stances. Three from the Prequel Fallen Order and they are: Single Lightsaber, Double Lightsaberand two separate Sabers. The remaining two Stances allow us to use the crossguard lightsaber, for heavy attacks, or lightsaber and blaster.
Very important thing to remember is that we can’t use more than 2 Stances at a time. So be careful, choose carefully based on the mission and probable opponents.
We also mentioned the combos or “coup de grace”, learned in the Skill Tree associated with each Stance that we are going to upgrade.
Exploration and Mounts
Our Survivor journey begins on the planet Koboh, following the crash of the Mantis.
Cal manages to reconnoiter the area and explore safely thanks to the introduction of the BD-1 Visor. For the closest areas, the Visor and the “BD-ocular” for the more distant areas.
Crossing the gorges of Koboh requires not only the use of Cal’s acrobatic skills, practical ziplines or the grappling hook. It’ll be possible to use the Force to tame the fauna and creating paths or free the road from obstacles.
Gliding with winged creatures or riding the Nekko, large bipedal birds, allow Cal to jump higher.
New travel companion: Bode Akuna
As we have seen from the Trailers, Cal will bring the Mantis crew with him. However a new figure will make its appearance: Bode Akuna.
But who is Bode Akuna? He is a human mercenary and freelance gunslinger, he is an ally of Cal Kestis. In 9 BBY, Akuna helps Kestis defeat a soldier scout. Bode is equipped with jetpacks, blasters and shock grenades.
“He and Cal form a special bond. It’s almost like they’re brothers. And they’re not exactly the same, but they really complement each other.” – says Stig Asmussen
Bode plays the role of an AI-friendly character who aids in both combat and traversal.
Collectables for every taste
Dozens and dozens of aesthetic customizations are hidden around the planets that can significantly transform the appearance of Cal and his trusty droid.
Haircuts, beards and mustaches of different lengths, body details and clothes of all kinds. Cal’s look can go from a “hermit” or a pilot with a mullet and the goatee.
On board the Stinger Mantis you can change the hilt and color of your lightsaber, but also the appearance of BD-1. Choose between different photoreceptors, antennas and skins for body, legs and head.
Koboh’s exploration is fruitful for this purpose. In the Outpost, you’ll find that the Saloon of Pyloon, that will add new features and shops. All the more reason to return to Koboh between missions.
The Chamber of Secrets
The most interesting addition to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor are undoubtedly the Meditation Chambers. These are sanctuaries similar to the shrines of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Places dating back to the High Republic, hidden around the map and completely optional. Here Cal must overcome a series of challenges using his Jedi powers.
Ending each Chamber you are rewarded with Benefits. Equip up to three of them (starting the game), they allow to increase the damage with the lightsaber, Force indicator or the amount of shots that can be blocked.
Improved Ray Tracing
“In fact, we considered the possibility of introducing Ray Tracing in the next-gen version of Fallen Order, since we were already making it for Survivor. – said Stig Asmussen – But in the end we had to give up on the idea, because the “Environment art varied slightly between the two generations. However, the process helped define the process of introducing Ray Tracing into our custom version of Unreal Engine 4.”
Terrain and vegetation are more detailed, the water is more believable, as is the thick fog of steam at the foot of the falls, while it is above all the lighting system that takes a leap forward, complete with support for ray tracing.
Hence the decision to obviously make Star Wars Jedi: Survivor only available on Next-Gen. To be able to create more vivid and detailed settings and characters to offer to the players.
The delayed release should allow Respawn to launch a solid and well-optimized game across all platforms.
