A world born from what we left behind: from things time has buried and from what we forgot, yet never truly lost.
It has been some time since June 7, 2023, when Throughline Games first lifted the curtain on Forgotlings at the Guerrilla Collective Showcase – the studio’s second project and a prequel to the critically acclaimed Forgotton Anne.
Three years, as experience teaches us, is no trivial span. Perspectives evolve, priorities shift, production conditions fluctuate, and creative ambitions inevitably transform. Time can bring new opportunities, but it also introduces unforeseen obstacles: delays, financial pressures, strategic recalibrations, and the natural frictions generated by an industry – the video game industry – that grows increasingly complex and competitive with each passing year. It is within this fragile space between aspiration and realisation that many productions, both independent and otherwise, lose momentum, scale back their scope, or, in the most unfortunate cases, vanish quietly into development limbo.
It was precisely this uncertainty that surrounded Forgotlings for a long stretch of its development. Many observers – ourselves included – feared that one of the most artistically and conceptually promising projects in the contemporary indie landscape might never reach completion, leaving behind an unfinished vision that seemed destined to become one of the most compelling chapters in recent independent game development.
Yet throughout this prolonged silence, one constant never wavered: passion. A steadfast, resilient dedication – grounded in daily perseverance, artistic integrity, a deep commitment to the medium, and a clearly defined creative vision. These guiding principles allowed Throughline Games to push the project forward without compromising its original identity, safeguarding the artistic core that first captured attention back in 2023.

The studio’s extended silence should not be mistaken for stagnation. Rather, it reflects a deliberate period of focused, meticulous development conducted away from the spotlight – a common approach among ambitious independent teams, where time is essential to refine creative ideas, solidify technical foundations, and achieve a sustainable balance between artistic ambition, production realities, and overall quality.
That long period of silence has finally come to an end. On February 3, 2026, Throughline Games – in partnership with U.S. publisher Hitcents – released a new official trailer, officially confirming the project’s long-awaited release. Forgotlings is set to launch on February 17, 2026, with its initial release scheduled for PC via Steam.
And What About Consoles?
As previously noted, Forgotlings is scheduled to launch on 17 February 2026, initially on PC via Steam. This deliberate choice is intended to maximise stability and deliver a high-quality debut – yet it naturally raises a question among fans: when will the game make its way to consoles? The developers addressed this directly in a recent post on the studio’s official blog, stating:
“Forgotlings will release on Steam first, and consoles at a later point, not too far off in the future. If you asked for a Forgotlings key for a console when supporting the Kickstarter, you can expect to receive that key when the game releases on your chosen platform. If you wish to exchange your console key for a Steam key, you can email support@throughlinegames.com.”
In other words, the console release has not been cancelled, only postponed. By prioritising the PC launch, the studio can focus all resources on a single, high-quality release: carefully monitoring stability, optimising performance, and addressing community feedback before undertaking the far more complex process of console porting, certification, and platform-specific optimisation.
This release approach is typical among ambitious indie studios, allowing them to safeguard both the game’s artistic vision and its technical integrity. Rather than rushing a simultaneous launch that could jeopardize the player experience, Throughline Games has chosen a cautious, methodical path – one that ensures every version of Forgotlings, whether on PC or console, meets the high standards of quality and attention to detail that fans have come to expect.
The Forgotten Lands Are Calling
Why simply count down the days to February 17 when anticipation itself can become a meaningful way to support Forgotlings and the Danish team at Throughline Games? With less than two weeks to go – just nine days at the time of writing – there are several simple but impactful ways players can show their support and help the game reach its widest possible audience ahead of launch.
The easiest and most effective way to support Forgotlings is by adding it to your Steam wishlist. It’s free, takes only a few seconds, and carries real weight: it signals player interest to Steam’s discovery systems, boosts the game’s visibility across the platform, and improves the likelihood of attracting new players on release day.
Equally important is following the official game page and enabling notifications, ensuring you stay up to date on every announcement, update, and launch-related promotion as soon as it goes live.
For those eager to dive into Forgotlings ahead of its official release, a free demo is now available on Steam, offering a first glimpse of the game, an introduction to Fig and his fearless crew of forgotlings, and an early taste of the wonders that await in the enchanting world of the Forgotten Lands.
