During the February 2025 State of Play, publisher Fast Travel Games and developer MoonHood Studios—founded by Klaus Lyngeled and Olov Redmalm—officially announced the release date for the Swedish studio’s debut project, The Midnight Walk, a stop-motion, clay-based first-person adventure first revealed at the September 2024 State of Play.

Along with the official announcement, a brand-new trailer was unveiled, confirming the release date and the opening of pre-orders. The trailer also provided a closer look at some of the game’s captivating features, seamlessly blending gameplay and cinematic sequences to showcase the nightmarish creatures players will face, the core mechanics to master, and mesmerizing new glimpses of its hauntingly beautiful dark fantasy world.

The trailer also unveiled tantalizing fragments of lore, shedding light on The Burnt One, the enigmatic protagonist players will embody, and Potboy, the small, vulnerable lost lantern creature under their protection. Additionally, it provided another evocative glimpse into the game’s melancholic soundtrack—an element that, along with its stunning artistic direction, stands out as one of MoonHood Studios’ most distinctive strengths.

Now, let’s get straight to the point—when will The Midnight Walk be released, and on which platforms will it be available? As revealed at the end of the trailer, the game is set to launch on May 8 for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation VR2, and SteamVR, with a retail price of $39.99.

Pre-orders are now live on the PlayStation Store, with a 10% discount available to PlayStation Plus members who pre-order. As for the PC version, publisher Fast Travel Games confirmed in the comments section of the Steam update that pre-orders will not be available on Steam. As a result, PC players interested in the game are encouraged to add it to their wishlist to receive a notification upon its launch.
