SPINE Gameplay Trailer | Spray Paint & Camerawork

Yesterday, during the PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted, Limassol-based developer and publisher Nekki unveiled a brand-new trailer for gun fu action game SPINE, coming to PC and consoles. The trailer showcases the game’s dynamic camera system and its futuristic cyberpunk world, blending cinematic, action-movie-style direction with intense close-quarters combat.

Although brief, the trailer teased some exciting new features, including a closer look at the game’s cyberpunk world, fresh environments, brutal takedowns, and an intense boss fight scene, first showcased during the Gamescom 2024 gameplay demos.

The real showstoppers of the trailer were the spray paint mechanic—employed by protagonist Redline to strike and temporarily blind enemies in a dazzling burst of colors, setting the stage for devastating takedowns—and the Intellectual Camera System, a groundbreaking dynamic camera that offers players fresh angles on the action, elevating SPINE to a whole new level of cinematic gameplay.

As game director Dmitry Pimenov explains, the goal has always been to make everything on screen an actively interactive element of the gameplay, rather than a passive feature. “We are using our own proprietary Intellectual Camera System – designed to find the most cinematic angles for the action on screen without interrupting gameplay – as well as embracing bold camera choices, including the use of pre-set cameras in certain scenes. Many of these decisions are inspired by iconic moments from classic action films. Players may spot some homages to scenes from John Wick Chapter 4 and Old Boy in today’s teaser.”

SPINE is set for release soon on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. For more information and to stay updated on its development, be sure to follow us and visit the official game website, as well as the account on X for the latest news.
