The game has been confirmed for release on Nintendo Switch and PC.
The Kickstarter campaign for Sunset Hills, the upcoming narrative-driven puzzle adventure game developed by the veteran Shanghai-based collective CottonGame, has successfully concluded, raising $13,092 (approximately €12,108).
This achievement is a significant milestone for the creators, as it not only allowed them to surpass their initial funding goal of $6,800 but also enabled them to unlock one of the developers’ stretch goals: releasing the game on PC and later on Nintendo Switch. However, the second stretch goal of $16,800, along with subsequent goals, remains out of reach, temporarily preventing the game’s release on PlayStation and Xbox.
Below are the recent statements from the studio’s last update, shared 24 hours before the campaign’s end, directly from ChinaJoy 2024:
“Hi everyone,
We’re in the final stretch—less than 24 hours left for our Sunset Hills Kickstarter campaign!
We have some exciting news to share: We received 3 indie game awards at this week’s ChinaJoy! 🎉🏆 This recognition means the world to us, and it’s all thanks to your amazing support.”
The accolades received are not only a testament to the excellent work by the Chinese studio but also reflect the enthusiastic response from players, as evidenced by the Kickstarter campaign numbers and the excitement surrounding the project.
Sunset Hills is scheduled for release next August on PC via Steam, with a subsequent launch on Nintendo Switch in 2025. Although the Kickstarter campaign did not achieve the second stretch goal needed to extend the release to PlayStation and Xbox, not all hope is lost. According to the developers’ roadmap, the plan is to eventually make Sunset Hills available on all platforms, including Android and iOS devices. The release for PlayStation, Xbox, and mobile platforms has not been canceled; it will just take additional time due to economic and optimization challenges.
