The game is set for a 2026 release on PC via Steam.
At yesterday’s Day of the Devs: The Game Awards Edition, the event hosted by Double Fine and iam8Bit—an initiative that has been showcasing some of the most captivating indie games since 2012—we were introduced to a range of titles that genuinely caught our eye. Among them, one game stood out as particularly intriguing: RECUR, the newest project from the creators of A Juggler’s Tale.
Developed by the small German collective kaleidoscube and published by Astra Logical, RECUR is the studio’s second creation—an intriguing puzzle platformer set against the backdrop of a world on the brink of inevitable destruction.
However, all may not be lost. There may still be a chance to avert this tragic fate. The key to saving the world could lie with the most unlikely of heroes: an average postman, unknowingly gifted with mysterious powers to rewind, fast-forward, and pause time itself. As players, our task will be to wield these extraordinary abilities—manipulating the flow of time to solve puzzles, alter outcomes, and uncover hidden secrets in our quest to prevent the impending doom.
This means that reflexes alone won’t be enough; no human skill can save you from the apocalypse. You’ll need to rely on your time-bending powers to solve puzzles and overcome enormous obstacles. Only then can you hope to restore the world and, perhaps, prevent the coming disaster. But will that be enough? More importantly, what will the consequences of your actions be? And why is the world around you crumbling like a fragile house of cards?
These are the key questions we’re sure you’re already asking about the game. For now, however, we don’t have definitive answers to these mysteries, nor do we know how our unlikely hero, the postman, came to possess his extraordinary powers. Only time will reveal the truth. So, for the moment, all we can do is await updates from the development team to uncover more.
RECUR has been announced for PC via Steam, with a release date set for 2026. The developers have also hinted at the possibility of a console version, though its realization remains uncertain at this stage.
