Nowhere News - All the latest updates

We are finally back to give you News for Nowhere, a Solo-Dev title from Midnight Forge LTD. For those who don’t know it, don’t worry, we’ll update you immediately! Nowhere is a Nordic-inspired narrative mystery/horror game. Focused on engaging and evocative Scandinavian settings and a realistic investigative system.

Here, we play a detective trapped in the forests of Norway, while searching for a group of missing tourists. At a certain point, however, we discover that there is more to the story than meets the eye!

Slowly, the tension builds as we explore the world. And we can never shake the feeling of being watched. Nowhere, in fact, uses a unique mix of investigative gameplay and survival horror themes with an entirely Nordic aesthetic… However, if you want to recover the “ABC“, you can read our introductory article.

But let’s get to the point and discover what’s new and some gems about the game!

Nowhere and its Story

What does the story of this game revolve around? A question we asked ourselves from the beginning, now that we know a little more we will try to explain it in this Nowhere news! The game, in fact, revolves around Nordic mythology and what happened to the Gods after Ragnarök. How the rise of Christianity affected them and their worship. From this historical point of view we know that in the 12th century, the Norse religion was replaced by Christianity even if some of its elements survive in local folklore. This is thanks to small groups of pagans who tenaciously preserved their roots despite strong Christianization. We wonder how much we will be able to retrace all this in the game, but above all in what way. In the form of documents? Finds? Flashback?

Nowhere amd its Story

Already from some screenshots we can see the large amount of references to some Norse figures, to sites for celebrating rites and many other small clues scattered in the available shots.

In any case, to know for sure, we will have to wait to test Nowhere first hand. We know, however, that the Director and Designer of Nowhere, Luke Dodds considers the cultural aspect one of the elements dearest to him. We can, therefore, expect great care in the development of this element within the game world.

Game progression

All this attention to the cultural theme will go hand in hand with the mix of detective gameplay and survival horror that characterizes Nowhere. Thus winking at players who love mystery and also love games like Silent Hill, Resident Evil and Outlast. All embellished with a non-linear progression system in a fully explorable open world environment. This will ensure that we can dedicate our time to visiting each location to investigate any scenes of interest.

Game progression

We’ll be able to look for clues or any remains of the missing tourists, as well as return to a place at a later time. There is the possibility, too, of discovering a new piece of relevant information somewhere else or finding a way to get into an area we couldn’t access before. The game, in fact, leaves us plenty of room for maneuver and is shaped by our choices. Based on the deductions made, we will be able to make sure we do everything right before continuing the story or make mistakes and fail.

Surviving in the Norwegian forest

Something in Nowhere is hiding… spying on us. A constant feeling of being watched and followed. Something is hunting us! But what exactly? They are called Draugr or Draug, “those who walk after death”; in Norse mythology they describe undead creatures. Again according to mythology they can have different complexions: pale, bluish or brown covering the whole body. The Draugr have various powers: changing their size, controlling the weather, being shapeshifters. The ones we saw in the Nowhere trailer or in the exclusive content available on the official website have a brown complexion and have a horrifying face hollowed out on their wrinkled chest.

The Draug

Their eyes emit a strong white light, which is also a characteristic trait of these mythological creatures. In their presence we can run, hide or fight. When they reveal themselves, the sky turns red, a sign of corruption, and a horn sounds in the air. Reality distorts around us, giving life to a real nightmare. Furthermore, thanks to the introduction of classic survival horror elements, our chances of survival will also depend on how much we know about the Draug. The game encourages us to investigate and discover as much information as possible. You never know which of these will be crucial and can help us survive as we unravel the mysteries of the story!

Nowhere lands at the Horror Game Awards
